There’s a week of mixed weather ahead, but at least it gets above freezing every day! And Monday is our Family Day holiday, here in Ontario, so I’m glad it has the best forecast for the week.
There’s nothing new in this week’s menu, but we haven’t had pancakes for supper since last year’s Pancake Day. And the last time for Chicken Fajitas was in August 2025!

The Weekly Plan
Here is our plan for the week starting Sunday, Feb 15, 2026. There are links for some recipes, and others are made “freestyle”.

Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Monday, Feb 16 – Almond Day
It’s not clear how Almond Day got started, but it’s the perfect time to try recipes that use almonds and almond products. Did you know that California grows 80% of the world’s almond supply?
- This recipe for Creamy Chicken Sage Pumpkin Pasta uses almond milk, and only takes 30 minutes to prepare
- And for something sweet, try these easy Scandinavian Almond Bars that use sliced almonds, and are ready in 22 minutes
Tuesday, Feb 17 – Pancake Day
The official name is Shrove Tuesday (Wikipedia), but we call it Pancake Day at our house. You could have a pancake breakfast, or enjoy “breakfast for supper”, like we do every year!
- This is our family’s Sour Milk Pancakes that we’ve used for decades!
Tuesday, Feb 17 – Cabbage Day
Here’s another day with unknown origins, but cabbage has been around for centuries. Some people don’t like its flavour, but here are three recipes for you to try.
- This recipe for Sautéed Cabbage is quick and easy, and would be a tasty side dish for your main course at supper time
- We enjoy this quick Cabbage Roll Stir Fry for supper. It’s a lot easier than traditional cabbage rolls!
- If you’re out for the day, start this Slow Cooker Vegan Cabbage Soup in the morning. It’s ready 6 to 8 hours later, just in time for supper.
Friday, Feb 20 – Muffin Day
This event was founded in 2015 by Jacob Kaufman and Julia Levy to encourage baking and sharing. Jacob Kaufman wrote about Muffin Day on its 10th anniversary, in 2024.
- Our family loves these Banana Streusel Muffins but be sure to use a plate – the topping makes them crumbly!
- I make these Applesauce Bran Muffins every 12 days, and Keith eats one every morning.
- The recipe calls for raisins, but I made them with cranberries and blueberries last week, just for a change.
- We store them in the freezer, and take one out every night, to thaw for breakfast
