Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Sunday, Feb 22 – Cook a Sweet Potato Day
There’s no known origin for Cook a Sweet Potato Day, but any day is just right to enjoy this delicious orange vegetable. Here are three recipes for you to try.
- This tasty recipe for Pork With Prosciutto, Sweet Potatoes and Pears takes about 45 minutes, and it’s really easy to make.
- We also enjoy Sweet Potato Fries as a side dish, but we usually buy a bag of frozen sweet potato fries, and cook those, instead of making them from scratch
- I’ve made this Sweet Potato Pear Soup a few times, and it’s always delicious. In the photo below, I added a fresh basil leaf on top of the soup, and it almost looked to pretty to eat.

Monday, Feb 23 – Banana Bread Day
I’d be happy to eat banana bread any day of the year! The recipe below has zucchini in it too, for an extra bit of nutrition.
- When bananas get really ripe, I make this Zucchini Banana Bread and everyone loves it.
- Tip: Peel your ripe bananas, then keep them in the freezer, until you’re ready to bake some banana bread
Friday, Feb 27 – Strawberry Day
February seems like a strange time of year to celebrate Strawberry Day, but we’ll go ahead and enjoy it anyway!
- I’ve made this Pork Tenderloin Medallions with Strawberry Sauce a few times and we both enjoyed it. It seemed like a strange combination at first, but the flavours went together well.
- This Strawberry Basil Chicken recipe looks good too, so I’ve added it to our list of new things to try soon!
