The forecast shows that March will “come in like a lion”, with cold, snowy days on Sunday and Monday. Then it warms up a bit, so with rain in Thursday’s forecast. Let’s hope the old saying is correct, and March will “go out like a lamb!”
There’s one new recipe this week – Honey Garlic Turkey Skillet. We can use ground turkey or ground chicken for that, and it takes about 50 minutes to prepare and cook.

Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Sunday, Mar 01 – Peanut Butter Lover’s Day
According to the National Peanut Board, this food celebration started in 1990, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of peanut butter’s commercial debut. Here are two recipes for you to try.
- These Peanut Butter and Jelly Muffins look pretty, and take about 45 minutes to make
- And for your main course, try this Crunchy Honey Peanut Chicken recipe. It’s ready in about 20 minutes
Tuesday, Mar 03 – Canadian Bacon Day
It’s not clear how Canadian Bacon day got started, but we call it peameal bacon (Wikipedia), or back bacon, here in Canada. Whatever you call it, this bacon is delicious! . Here are three recipes for you to try.
- Make this Slow Cooker Peameal and Potato Chowder in the morning, and scoop it into bowls at suppertime.
- A classic way to eat back bacon is in a sandwich, so try this Peameal Bacon BLT Sandwich version.
- For a grab and go meal, make these Canadian Bacon and Egg Cups
Friday, Mar 06 – Frozen Food Day
Most food celebrations days have a murky past, and nobody knows how they got started. Frozen Food Day is different – it was officially declared in 1984, by USA’s President Ronald Reagan. Read more about it on the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association site.
These two recipes feature frozen ingredients:
- This Slow-Cooker Cranberry-Apple Meatballs recipe uses frozen meatballs and frozen apples
- This 30-minute recipe for Chicken Egg Roll in a Bowl uses frozen ground chicken.
