Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Sunday, Apr 05 – National Deep Dish Pizza Day
It’s not clear how Deep Dish Pizza Day got started, but deep dish pizza was first sold in 1943, at Pizzeria Uno in Chicago. There might be sales on deep dish pizza today, but if you’d rather make your own, here are a couple of recipes.
- This recipe Chicago-Style Deep Dish Pizza recipe takes 4.5 hours, so get stared early! It makes 2 deep dish pizzas, 9” round
- Or, try this Detroit-Style Pan Pizza. It takes 4 hrs and 10 min, and makes 2 deep dish square pizzas, 8”x8”
Monday, Apr 06 – National Carbonara Day
National Carbonara Days was created in 2017 to promote the traditional recipe for Carbonara, using guanciale, Pecorino Romano, egg, pepper
Here are three Carbonara recipes for you to try:
- This Carbonara recipe stays close to the traditional ingredients. It takes 5 minutes to prepare, and 15 minutes to cook, and serves 4.
- This is our recipe for Pasta Carbonara With Mushrooms. It takes 30 minutes to make, and serves 2.
- This Canadian-Inspired Creamy Carbonara Recipe makes 4 cups of sauce, with touch of heat from chili flakes. The last step is to toss it with cooked spaghetti, so be sure to cook that, while you’re making the sauce!
Saturday, Apr 11 – National Cheese Fondue Day
It’s a mystery how Cheese Fondue Day got started, but we’re happy to celebrate it!
Here are three recipes to try:
- For a traditional fondue, try this Classic Swiss Cheese Fondue. It takes 15 minutes to prepare, and serves 8
- For a fondue without alcohol, try this Classic Cheese Fondue Alcohol-Free recipe. It takes 25 min to prepare, then 15 minutes to cook, and serves 6.
- If you’re feeding children, they might prefer this Kids’ Favourite Cheese Fondue recipe. It takes 15min to prepare, then 10 minutes to cook, and serves 4 to 6.
