There’s a week of mixed weather ahead, but at least the temperatures are above freezing every day!
Happy Thanksgiving, if you’re celebrating this Thursday. I put the new recipe, Slow Cooker Turkey Breast, on that day. It makes 6 servings, so it’s perfect for 2 or 3 people, with leftovers the next day.
And for a few fun food ideas, check out the Food Celebration Days section, below the weekly menu.

Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Sunday, Nov 23rd – National Eat A Cranberry Day
Cranberries are very tart, so I like to eat them as an ingredient, rather than on their own. To learn more about cranberries, and get more recipes, visit the US Cranberries website.
- We really enjoy our Cranberry Orange Lamb Chops recipe for supper, especially on a cool evening.
- And cranberries are delicious in baked goods too, like these Cranberry Orange Oatmeal Cookies, that I posted on my old food blog.
Wednesday, Nov 26 – National Cake Day
Every day would be Cake Day, if my grandkids were in charge! The Food Network might have started National Cake Day, but maybe not! Anyway, you can find lots of cake recipes on their website.
- Our favourite cake to make, and to eat, is our Chocolate Dump Cake. It’s not fancy, but it’s easy to make, with simple ingredients, and it’s always delicious
Thursday, Nov 27 – Thanksgiving (USA)
In the USA, Thanksgiving is the start of the holiday season, and it’s packed with traditions, and excellent food. If you’re looking for inspiration, check out the Classic Thanksgiving Recipes on Sally’s Baking Addiction website.
We celebrate Thanksgiving in October, here in Canada, and I always make an Apple Crisp, which is Keith’s favourite dessert.
- I posted our Apple Crisp recipe on my old food blog, way back in September 2008.
Friday, Nov 28 – National French Toast Day
You might not be too hungry on Friday, if you enjoyed a big Thanksgiving feast on Thursday! But when our grandkids visit, they’re always ready to eat French toast for breakfast.
- Usually, Keith makes standard French toast, like the ones our grandson is ready to eat, in the photo below.
- A few times though, Keith has made a fancier recipe – Cinnamon Banana French Toast. Yum!
Did you know that French toast originated in Rome, way back in the 1st Century! Learn more on Wikipedia’s French Toast page.
