For this week’s menu, I chose old favourites from our meal plan, and with no new recipes. However, this is only the second time that we’ve had the slow cooker turkey breast, so it’s almost new!

It will be very cold again today, and then sunny on Sunday, with the temperatures slightly higher for the rest of the week.
We’re trying the the slow cooker turkey breast again, and my notes from November say to remove the skin, before putting it in the slow cooker. The skin made it really hard to carve the meat last time! We can put the skin on top of the meat, for the flavour boost.

Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Monday, Feb 2 – Tater Tot Day
Tater Tots were invented by the Ore-Ida company founders, in 1953, as a way to use the potato scraps from making their French fries. In 2009, food writer John-Bryan Hopkins founded Tater Tot day, to celebrate these tasty potato nuggets.
Here are the links to some Tater Tot recipes you can try:
- If you have a bag of Tater Tots in the freezer, the AllRecipes site has 18 Fun Recipes That Start With Tater Tots
- And if you don’t have a bag of Tater Tots , follow this recipe to make your own tater tots
Wednesday, Feb 4 – Homemade Soup Day
It’s not clear when or how Homemade Soup Day got started, but February is the perfect time to enjoy a hot bowl of comforting goodness!
Here are the links to two of our favourite homemade soups, and we’re having 15-Minute Wonton Soup on Wednesday:
- This Stovetop Carrot Apple Ginger Soup takes about an hour to make
- The Avgolemono Greek Lemon Soup is a bit lighter, and takes about 15 minutes to make
Saturday, Feb 7 – Fettuccine Alfredo Day
Fettuccine Alfredo was created in 1908, in Rome, by restaurant owner Alfredo di Lelio. It became popular in the 1920s, after movie stars Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks enjoyed the dish, while on their honeymoon in Rome, and told all their friends!
Here are a couple of versions of this popular pasta dish for you to try:
- On Serious Eats website, there’s a Roman-Style Fettuccine With Alfredo Sauce recipe
- We can’t eat the heavy, rich Alfredo sauce, so we make this Fettuccine Alfredo with Cauliflower Sauce instead
