Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Sunday, Feb 8 – Super Bowl Sunday
Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday, and our family tradition is to have chili for supper that day. If you’d like to enjoy a hearty bowl of chili too, here are a couple of recipes that you could try.
- This Chili con Carne recipe is our family favourite. It’s a scaled down version of “Chili for a Crowd”, in the Silver Palate Cookbook.
- One year, I made this delicious Chili-Chicken Casserole for a party, and dropped it onto the floor, while taking it out of the oven!
Monday, Feb 9 – Pizza Day
It’s not clear when Pizza Day started, but we love pizza, so we’re ready to celebrate!
Here are a couple of pizza recipes for you to try.
- If you want to start from scratch, try this Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe for Beginners, then add your favourite sauce and toppings
- Or, if that’s too much work, try these Super Easy Mini Naan Pizzas 4 Ways. Everyone can create their own pizza!
Friday, Feb 13 – Cheddar Day
It’s also unclear how Cheddar Day got started, but it’s another one of our favourite foods, so we’ll join the fun!
Here are a couple of Cheddar cheese recipes for you to try.

- In my experience, you can’t go wrong with a tasty grilled cheese sandwich, and we always make them on our little George Foreman indoor grill (Amazon link). We’ve had the grill for 12 year, and it’s still going strong!
- And if you’d like something fancier, try this Mushroom and Ham Gougère recipe, with Cheddar cheese in the pastry, and sprinkled on top. It’s the first fancy recipe that I tried, after we got married, long, long ago! And it turned out beautifully, as you can see in the photo below.
