Remember to set your clocks ahead one hour tonight, if you’re switching to Daylight Saving Time tomorrow, like we are. The forecast shows sun and warmer temperatures for Sunday and Monday, so that might make the time transition a bit easier!
I chose one new recipe for next week – Chicken Egg Roll in a Bowl. I found it last week, while looking for Frozen Food Day recipes. It looked tasty and easy, so we’ll try it this Wednesday, and see how it goes.

Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Monday, Mar 09 – National Meatball Day
Nobody knows how this meatball celebration got started, but we’re happy to eat meatballs for supper, any day of the month! We’re having our meatballs a day early, but maybe we’ll have leftovers for lunch on Monday.
Here are a couple of other meatball recipes for you to try:
- This recipe for Spaghetti With Asiago Meatballs makes about 18 large meatballs, so you might have some extras, to store in the freezer for future suppers
- I haven’t tried this Herby Lamb Meatballs recipe yet, but it looks quick, and tasty
Thursday, Mar 12 – National Alfred Hitchcock Day
This is another day of unknown origin. It’s not a typical “food day”, but I went down a rabbit hole, to see if food was featured in any Alfred Hitchcock movies. The answer is “Yes!” There are notes and links in this Hitchcock culinary guide, and a couple of articles with recipes below.
- Hitchcock’s movie, To Catch a Thief, featured Quiche Lorraine, and you can read about it in this article by Silver Screen Suppers
- In another Hitchcock movie, 39 Steps, the main character makes fried haddock, for a mysterious woman, before he he’s forced to run for his life! Read about the movie, and get the recipe.
Saturday, Mar 14 – Pi Day
The origin of Pi Day (Wikipedia) is well documented! It was founded in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw, to celebrate the mathematical constant pi. It’s on March 14th (3/14), which matches the first three digits of pi – 3.14. And what should you eat on Pi Day? Pie, of course! So here are a couple of pie recipes for your supper:
- For your main course, try this Chicken Pot Pie by Pioneer Woman
- And if you like dessert, this Easy Chocolate Pie only takes 5 minutes to prepare (use a store-bought crust) and 45 minutes to cook.
And remember, there’s a PI function in Excel, so you could use that today too!
