For this week’s menu, I chose old favourites from our meal plan, and included one new recipe.

There’s a week of rollercoaster weather ahead, snow, sun, rain, and who knows what else! The schools here will be closed for March break, so I hope the kids have some indoor activities planned.
This week’s new recipe is Skillet Salmon Stew, and I’ll use canned salmon, instead of fresh. If we really like the recipe, we can try it again later, using fresh salmon.
The rest of the week we’ll have old favourites, and we haven’t had the pork tenderloin or pot roast for a while.

Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Tuesday, Mar 17 – St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day has been an official feast day since the 17th century. It’s an official public holiday in some places, and it’s a cultural celebration too, in many parts of the world. Learn more on Ireland’s official website.
Here are a couple of recipes to try:
- This Irish Lamb Stew is ready in about 2 hours, and you could use beef, instead of the traditional lamb.
- We usually enjoy this Slow Cooker Corned Beef Brisket on St. Patrick’s Day. It takes about 10 minutes to prepare, then it’s in the slow cooker for about 8 hours.
Thursday, Mar 19 – National Poultry Day
Nobody knows how Poultry Day got started, but it’s a day to enjoy chicken, turkey, and other domesticated poultry. The Chicken Farmers of Canada have lots of recipes and cooking tips for you.
And here are a couple of my recipes for you to try:
- This recipe for Asian-Inspired Turkey Lettuce Wraps uses ground turkey, and is ready in about 30 minutes.
- I usually make this Easy Chicken Casserole in the oven, but I included slow cooker instructions too.
Friday, Mar 20 – National Ravioli Day
Ravioli Day is another event with unknown origins, but you can read about the history of ravioli on the Wikipedia site.
We always use premade ravioli, so here are a couple of recipes that I’d like to try:
- This recipe for Alfredo Ravioli takes about 15 minutes, using fresh or frozen ravioli.
- Use frozen ravioli in this Baked Ravioli Casserole which take about 50 minutes to prepare and bake.
