Food Celebration Days

Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.

Wednesday, Mar 25 – Greece’s National Day

This holiday was officially stablished in 1838, to celebrate the successful Greek War of Independence. You can read more about it on Wikipedia.

Here are a couple of recipes to try:

  • This One-Pot Greek Lamb and Orzo For 2 recipe is one of our favourites. It’s ready in 30 minutes, all in one pot, and it tastes delicious.
  • We haven’t tried this Easy Greek Bowl recipe yet, but it looks good. It’s ready in 15 minutes, so you can get supper on the table quickly!

Thursday, Mar 26 – National Spinach Day

It’s not clear how this day got started, but if you’ve ever watched a Popeye cartoon, you know that spinach made him strong! Spinach might not have that magical effect in real life, but it’s a good source of some nutrients, and it tastes good!

Here are a couple of spinach recipes to try, and see more recipes and cooking tips in WikiBooks:

Friday, Mar 27 – World Theatre Day

Started in 1962, World Theatre Day celebrates the value and importance of theatre. Food plays an important role in some plays, like the popular musical, Waitress, which takes place in a pie diner.

Here are a couple of pie recipes to try:

  • Start your supper with this Easy Beef Pot Pie recipe. It serves 4, and is ready in 55 minutes
  • For dessert, make this Blueberry Pie with Graham Cracker Crust It only takes 15 minutes to make, with a store-bought crust.
    • Note: Make the pie ahead of time, because it needs to cool in the fridge 1-2 hrs, before it’s ready to eat.
