There’s a week of mixed weather ahead, ranging from warm and stormy, to cold and cloudy, then warm and sunny. So whatever kind of spring weather you like, we’ll probably have it! Except snow, thank goodness.
This week’s new recipe is for Easy Beef Fajitas. We’ve made fajitas many times before, but never followed a recipe, so we’ll see how this grilled beef and veggies version goes.

Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Sunday, Apr 19 – National Garlic Day
The origin of this food day is unknown, we love a garlicky recipe for supper! And a simple way to celebrate is to buy a loaf of garlic bread, and heat that up to serve with your supper.
Here are a couple of garlicky recipes from my old food blog, that we enjoy making and eating:
- These Lemon Garlic Ribs are delicious, and easy to make. They need to marinate, so you could do that step in the morning, or the night before.
- This Saucy Baked Chicken Legs With Olives and Tomatoes recipe is one of my favourites, and it’s smells wonderful while it’s baking.
Tuesday, Apr 21 – National Chickpea Day
This food day was started in 2019 by the HIPPEAS snack food company. They make crunchy treats, like chickpea puffs and chickpea tortilla chips, and Leonardo DiCaprio is an investor. I never thought of him as a chickpea fan!
You could buy some snacks, and a container of hummus to dip them into. Or, try one of these chickpea recipes:
- This recipe for Marry Me Chickpeas looks tasty, and it only takes about 15 minutes to get on the supper table, using canned chickpeas.
- And in only 30 minutes, you could make this recipe for 1-Pot Chickpea Shakshuka which also uses canned chickpeas
Thursday, Apr 23 – Saint George’s Day
This is one of the traditional feast days on the Christian calendar, and St. George is the patron saint of England. Here in Canada, it’s a statutory holiday in Newfoundland and Labrador, celebrated on the Monday closest to April 23rd – which is Monday April 20th in 2026.
Here are a couple of traditional English recipes for you to try (or order for take out!):
- We love this type of Fish and Chips (British Pub Style) , which takes about an hour to make. However, we usually cheat, and cook frozen fish and chips!
- For a quicker and easier meal, make Bangers and Mash (Sausage with Onion Gravy) that’s ready in about 30 minutes. The recipe is for the meat, and you serve it with mashed potatoes and peas. Our grocery store usually sells mashed potatoes, so you don’t have to make them from scratch.
