Weekly Meal Plan 2026-07-04 ginger and rice

For this week’s menu, I chose old favourites from our meal plan, and included one new recipe – Maple Turkey Skillet. And scroll down to see the fun food day ideas too, like National Fried Chicken Day (Mon Jul 6).

We’ll have a rainy weekend here, then sun and cloud for the rest of the week. I’m glad the temperature will drop slightly, for a few days, so we can recover from the heat wave!

For next week, I picked slow cooker and stovetop recipes, so we don’t need to turn the oven on. We’ll have rotisserie chicken on Friday and Saturday, so that’s an easy meal, with no oven heat.

Food Celebration Days

Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.

Sunday, Jul 05 – National Graham Cracker Day

Graham crackers were created as a health food, by Sylvester Graham, and this celebration is on his birthday – July 5th.

Most recipes with graham crackers are for dessert, or sweet snacks, but I found a main dish recipe, and a spicy sweet treat recipe for you to try:

  • This main dish recipe for Honey Graham Cracker Coated Chicken Fingers has a sweet and crunchy coating. Prep time is only 5 minutes, then it takes 10 minutes to cook, and serves 3-4
  • If you like spicy food, try this Spicy Baked S’mores recipe. Make these in the oven, instead a campfire, and they have red peppers of jalapenos for a spicy kick. Prep time is 5 min, they cook for 10 min, and the recipe serves 6

Monday, Jul 06 – National Fried Chicken Day

It’s not clear how Fried Chicken Day got started, but breaded and deep-fried chicken has a long history.

If it’s too hot to cook today, you could buy some fried chicken on the way home. Maybe it’s on sale today!

If you’d rather make your own, hare a couple of recipes to try:

  • This recipe for Fried Chicken Sandwich has step by step instructions, with photos. The prep time is 20 min, then it should marinate for 4 hrs. After that, you’ll cook it for 15 minutes, and it serves 4.
  • For a quicker meal, try this recipe for Air Fryer Fried Chicken. It has a 15 minute prep time, then cooks for 20 minutes, and serves 4

Tuesday, Jul 07 – National Macaroni Day

It’s not clear how Macaroni Day got started, but macaroni pasta a great ingredient for a quick and filling supper.

Here are a couple of macaroni-based recipes to try:

  • For a hearty supper, try this Shipwreck Casserole recipe. It takes 10 minutes to prep, cooks for 20 minutes, and serves 4
  • For a lighter supper, try this recipe for Minestrone with Turkey. The  total time is 30 minutes, and it serves 6
