Suddenly, it’s the last week of July, and there’s a week of clouds, rain, and mid-20s temperatures in the forecast. If you’re on vacation, I hope you’ve planned some indoor activities!

Food Celebration Days

Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.

Sunday, Jul 26 – World Tofu Day

This celebration started in Canada, in 2014, when the SPA encouraged people to eat plant-based proteins.

Here are a couple of tofu recipes to try:

  • To learn the basics, go to this article on How to Cook Tofu. The sample recipe takes 5 minutes to prep, then cooks for 25 minutes, and makes 5 servings
  • Or, try this recipe for Sweet and Sour Tofu. Prep time is 10 minutes, then cook for 20 minutes, and it makes 2 servings

Wednesday, Jul 29 – National Lasagna Day

It’s not clear how National Lasagna Day started, but it’s a delicious food for supper, any day of the year, and it’s perfect for a crowd!

You can buy frozen lasagna at the grocery story, or invite people over, and  try one of these lasagna recipes:

  • For a traditional lasagna, try this World’s Best Lasagna recipe. It takes 30 minutes to prep, cooking time is 2.5 hours, and it makes 12 servings
  • For something a bit different, try this recipe for Buffalo Chicken Lasagna. It takes 30 minutes to prep, then it cooks for 50 minutes, and makes 10-12 servings.

Friday, Jul 31 – National Avocado Day

National Avocado Day was founded in 2017, by Model Meals, a meal delivery service, to promote healthy eating and sustainable agriculture.

Here are a couple of quick avocado recipes to try:
