Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Sunday, May 24 – Asparagus Day
There’s no origin story for this celebration, but you can learn all about asparagus on the Serious Eats site. And if you love this tasty spring vegetable, here are a couple of recipes to try.
- This recipe for One-Pan Chicken and Asparagus Skillet Dinner takes 10 minutes to prep, and 15 minutes to cook. It serves 4, and there’s only one pot to wash!
- For another quick supper, try this Lemon Garlic Asparagus Pasta. It takes 5 minutes to prep, and 20 minutes to cook, for 3 servings.
Monday, May 25 – Memorial Day
In the USA, Memorial Day is a federal holiday to honour fallen military personnel. It’s observed on the last Monday in May, and this year it’s on the earliest possible date – May 25th.
If you’re eating indoors on Memorial Day, here are a couple of recipes to try:
- For a hearty supper, try this Sheet Pan Mini Meatloaves recipe. It takes 20 minutes to prep, and 40 minutes to cook, for 4 servings.
- Or, use cooked chicken in this recipe for Southwestern Chopped Chicken Salad. It’s ready in 15 minutes, and serves 6.
Thursday, May 28 – National Hamburger Day
Hamburger day marks the start of the summer grilling season, if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere!
Maybe you have your own hamburger recipe, but if not, here are a couple of burger recipes to try.
- This recipe makes a bold claim in its title! Is it really The Perfect Basic Burger recipe? It takes 5 minutes to prepare, and 15 minutes to cook, for 4 servings.
- And if you only have 10 minutes, try this Smash Burger recipe, that also makes 4 servings. A smash burger is a thin burger that’s cooked on a griddle.
