For this week’s menu, I chose old favourites from our meal plan, with 3 recipes that we haven’t had for a while. And scroll down to see the fun food day ideas too, like World Tapas Day (Thu Jun 18).

There’s a cooler week of weather ahead, which is good news, after the hot days we’ve just had. June should be in the mid 20s, not the low 30s!.
It’s been a few months since we last had the lamb patties, and the BBQ ribs, so it will be nice to have those next week. And we haven’t had tortellini since December 2023! I bought some frozen beef tortellini at Costco yesterday, so we’ll try that on Monday.

Food Celebration Days
Almost every day of the year has a food celebration that we can enjoy, or ignore! Here are a few of the food days for the upcoming week, with recipe ideas for you.
Monday, Jun 15 – National Prune Day
I love prunes, and have some every morning, so I’m happy to celebrate National Prune Day. It was started in 1988 by healthy food advocate, Rhayne Thomas.
Here are a couple of “pruney” recipes to try:
- This recipe for Fettuccine with Prosciutto, Prunes and Black Pepper looks good. The recipe takes 15 minutes to prep, and 20 minutes to cook, and serves 4.
- And this recipe for Roasted Chicken Thighs With Prunes takes about 50 minutes, and it serves 4
Tuesday, Jun 16 – National Eat Your Vegetables Day
It’s not clear how Eat Your Vegetables Day got started, but we have a couple of vegetables with most of our suppers.
Here are a couple of quick recipes to try:
- For this 15 Minute Easy Pasta Fresca recipe, cook the pasta while you make the sauce. It’s ready in 15 minutes, and serves 4.
- And this recipe for Easy Veggie Stir Fry takes 10 minutes to prepare, and 10 minutes to cook, and it serves 4. You could use a jar of stir fry sauce, instead of making it from scratch.
Thursday, Jun 18 – World Tapas Day
World Tapas Day was started in 2016 by Spain’s tourism agency, Turespaña. Traditionally, a tapa is a small portion, mostly cold cuts, served with a drink.
Here are a couple of articles to help you plan a tapas party:
- This article has a recipe for Patatas Bravas with Cheat Garlic Aioli and links to 24 more tapas recipes. Pick a couple to try for your tapas supper!
- And this article has links to a couple of Easy Spanish Tapas Recipes and interesting information about the history of tapas. I love the advice in the final section: See what’s in the fridge, and put it on small plates. Then add wine, a friend, and Spanish music!
